Matilda followed her husband to Denmark and found job in Sønderborg

Through it all my experience with the Partner Job office is all very positive. They were able to help us with many aspects of relocating and were always very easy to get in touch and eager to meet with us. Looking for a job is not easy and can sometime be a bit heavy. But the people at Partner Job were really encouraging and helpful along the way.

Matilda Andersson, Sweden

Matilda Andersson came to Denmark medio 2020, because her husband was hired by “Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester”. Now she also got a job.

Moving to Sønderborg

When my husband got a job in Sønderborg we went to the municipality webpage and found out about the partner job office. It felt very good to know that there was an office to help us relocate and more specifically to help me (the spouse) find a job. I reached out early in the year just to get started and I was happily surprised of the response. We had our first meeting over the phone just to get to know each other a bit and I got some very valuable information of all sorts – for example the Facebook group for newcomers, what webpages to use for jobhunts, info about the area, where we could look for housing and other things. There is so much to think about when you´re new to a country.

After that first conversation with the Partner Job Consultant, she had a sense of what types of jobs I was looking for and she sent me suggestions for postings when she saw something that might work for me. I also got tips about webinars about looking for jobs in Denmark.

The, least to say, strange spring went on and in the middle of the summer we finally reached Sønderborg. I met with Newcomer Service after we finished unpacking and we talked about networking and other practical things related to looking for a new job in a new country.  I signed up for some e-mail lists which sent me available jobs ads in the city. I also met with the Partner Job Consultant and had a good talk about how to write a CV in Danish. They helped me with a template and had a lot of good ideas to improve my CV.

The job became a reality, fast

Through one of these email lists I got a notice about a job that looked interesting. I sent my CV, was called for an interview and things went well. Now I’m working at a company in Sønderborg with their swedish speaking customer service and I’m very happy about my new job. It’s perfect to get to work in Swedish and at the same time learn more danish every day.

On September 5th we participated in a day for newcomers and people thinking about moving to the Sønderborg area. It was a day of good information and good opportunity to network. We started with brunch at Alsion and among other things we got to listen to information about the housing market, schools and kindergartens, the surrounding villages in the area and the voice of a newcomer telling us about her experience moving here.

After that we went for a walk through the city with some stops for art and Rådhustorvet. Then we headed towards Hotel Alsik for some coffee and cake and networking. The day ended with a spectacular view over Sønderborg from Alsik point of view.
