How to approach the port

The port of Sonderborg can accommodate cruise ships up to 100 meters, and larger cruise ships are invited to use tender boats. Water depth is between 5 and 7 meters. Apart from this, ships can anchor at own or pilots discretion within approx. 0.8 nm of
the pontoon bridges.
Depth in the anchorage area between 10 
and 13 fathoms (18 and 23 meters) with good holding bottom.

Cruise ships must sails North around the island of Als with a maximum speed of 4 knots through the harbor. The current is usually northbound, occasionally up to 3 knots. Tidal range is -5 feet and +5 feet.

Tender quay

The tender landing facility is a temporary landing facility situated at a location just next to Sonderborg Castle at the so-called “king steps”. The tender boats arrive at pontoons especially constructed for tendering. At arrival there is a secure area with security personnel controlling who is going in and out. There will also be plenty of space for the cruise ships security and personnel.
The downtown area is just 200 meters walking distance from the tender quay. We provide free downtown-shuttles with up to
3 stops round-trip. Busses booked by the cruise company are parked just 20 meters from the tender quay – taxis and other busses are parked not more than 150 meters away.

Average temperatures

The weather in Sonderborg is often comfortable without too much wind.

The warmest weather is typically from June until September with temperatures between 15-30°C. The hottest month is usually July with temperatures between 16-33°C.

The coldest weather is typically from December until February with temperatures between 1-3°C.
