Nordals Nature Park is located 20 km north of Sonderborg. Nordals Nature Park has well-marked routes and facilities, whether you want to hike, birdwatch, cycle, sail or spend the night in the Nature Park.
It takes place in Nordals Nature Park

Tours we recommend
Bird migration at Bundsø, Mjels sø and Oldenor. The beautiful entrance to Dyvig. The toads in Oksbøl forest. Ancient relics in Brandsbøl forest. Hill training at Mjels.
There are many nature experiences in Nordals Nature Park. Here is a selection of experiences that the Nature Guides of Sonderborg recommend.

Around Lake Mjel
Hiking and cycling tour, 5 km. Birdwatching
Mjels Sø has been drained and cultivated, but in 2006 the lake was restored. The original pump house has been preserved and offers good facilities and information. The birdlife is unique at the lake, and on the hike along the lake there are good chances of getting close to, for example, geese, ducks and grebes.

Oksbøl forest
Walking and cycling routes, red route, 5,8 km
Oksbøl Forest has many routes of varying lengths. The red route takes you around the many bogs in the forest. The bogs are fine habitats for many different amphibians and bird species, which you can experience up close. The forest is new and was created to future-proof the groundwater and to create new opportunities for outdoor activities.

Alsstien: Hardeshøj - Nordborg Castle
Cycling and hiking route, 13 km.
The trip goes from the ferry port in Hardeshøj through Mjels Mark to the narrow, beautiful entrance to Dyvig at Steg Gab. The trip then continues along Mjels Vig at Røde Næb and along E Gaul to Nordborg.
The landscape varies between beautiful views of the coves and passages through dense hedges and the tunnel valley Gammeldam. Along Oldenor there are good opportunities for bird watching. The terrain is hilly, so be prepared for a walk that may make you sweat.

Around Als: Mjels vig - Steg Gab - Dyvig
Canoe and kayak tour, 7 km
A unique route for sailors, canoe, SUP and kayak enthusiasts. Sailing along the winding coastline and around to the natural harbors is a particularly beautiful experience and an opportunity to see the fjord landscape from the sea. Start the trip from Mjels Vig or Dyvig, where you can easily park.

Bundsøstien
Nature, birds and ancient monuments. Hiking, 7.5 km.
The Bundsøstien is, like Mjels sø and Oldenor, also a restored lake. Bundsø is an ideal starting point for experiencing both beautiful nature and cultural and historical gems. Along the lake you can observe the many species of birds, and perhaps the white-tailed eagle, which daily soars over Bundsø. In Brandsbøl forest you will find 7 beautiful long dunes.

The North Als Route
Cycling route, 4,5 km
The local cycle route 37 goes through the Nordals Nature Park. The stage from Dyvig goes through the beautiful tunnel valley to Nordborg. The terrain is hilly and varied.
The hills are steep at Mjels Pumpehus, and the view of the landscape is unique from the top, Bøgebjerg.
Facilities and experiences

Fishing
In Nordborg Lake you can catch pike, perch and bream if you have purchased a day pass. At Lønsømade you can fish from the shore.
If you are 18-67 years old, you must have a fishing license almost regardless of where you fish.

The fishing boat at Mjels lake
At Mjels Pumpehus you can borrow equipment for waterhole activities: Waders, binoculars, trays, mini aquariums and nets, etc.
Identification sheets and reference books will help you determine the species.
The equipment is suitable for lakeside activities, teaching or camp school activities. It is enough for a school class. Contact Polle for access: Tel. 40 16 49 80.

The stag jump boat in Holm
The Hjortspringbåden is a copy of the original Hjortspringbåden, which dates from around 350 BC. The Hjortspringbåden is 19 m. long and built to match the original construction.
The boat was found in Hjortspring Mose in 1921, and was part of a large weapon offering in the bog. The original is on display at the National Museum. The boat is the oldest plank-built boat in the Nordic countries. 140 volunteers are behind the boat building.

Mjels Pumpehus - the center of the nature park
Enjoy the beautiful view and birdlife from the old pump house at Mjels Sø. Several hiking trails depart from the Pump House. The house serves as an information and packed lunch place with a viewing platform. There is a toilet nearby.
Mjels Pumpehus and the drainage canals at Mjels sø and Bundsø are today witnesses to the 1800th century drying up and draining of the lakes. The lakes were recreated in 1993-2016. Today, the lakes appear as they did at the end of the 1500th century, when they were cut off from the sea.

Nordborg Castle
Around the year 1150, the first castle was built on Als. Surrounded by a moat, Alsborg was well protected on the south side of Nordborg Lake. The castle has burned down twice and the current buildings were built during German rule in 1910. Today, Nordborg Castle forms the setting for the Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot.
The castle park is open to the public.

Jollmand's farm
In the village of Holm lies the Alsian hook farm from the 1700th century, Jollmands Gaard. The farm is very well preserved and contains a fine exhibition of everyday life in the countryside at that time. The buildings are shaped like a hook and are a beautiful example of Alsian half-timbering.

Havnbjerg Mill
The beautiful thatched windmill from 1835 is located high on a hilltop above Havnbjerg and with Havnbjerg Church as a neighbor. The mill was in operation until 1961. Since then, the mill has been restored and is today a museum. Havnbjerg Mølle became particularly famous when the filming of the movie War and Love took place in the mill.

Natureland Sonderborg app
When you are on a trip in Nordals Nature Park, the Naturlandet Sonderborg app guides you on your way. The app shows your location and the route on your mobile phone.
Nature and antiquity
The kingfisher breeds at Lake Mjels, the white-tailed eagle flies over the lakes daily, and the cormorant has established a colony in the trees at Lake Bundsø.
Nordals Nature Park is home to many different species of birds, amphibians, rare orchids, bats and predatory fish. 350 plant and animal species belong to the park. The restored lakes Oldenor, Mjels Sø and Bundsø are important habitats for breeding sea and lake birds and fish.
In ancient times, the first people in the area lived as hunters and gatherers.
