A large network of hiking and cycling routes crosses the entire municipality, and on Als, riders can follow a 100 km riding route. The many coastal stretches offer beautiful swimming and fishing spots as well as experiences in sea kayaking or snorkeling.

Hiking trails and walks
Where would you like to go for a walk? Sonderborg Municipality has 322 km of hiking trails that take you through scenic and diverse landscapes. Whether you want to go long or short, along the coast, through tunnel valleys or in the forest, you will find trips that suit your wishes. The hiking trails are divided into 131 routes and are well marked.
The Gendarme Path, along Flensborg Fjord, or the Alsstien along the Alsian coast are long, multi-day hikes, while the Stevning Nor and Nybøl Nor trails are obvious short and medium-length routes for day trips.

Bicyclerute
Cycling in Sonderborg Municipality offers beautiful experiences on Als and in the surrounding countryside. The good cycle paths and small, quiet roads take you around all areas in the municipality. Cycle to the royal town of Gråsten and the Royal Garden or the historic Dybbøl Banke and Dybbøl Mill. Cross Als Fjord between Ballebro and Hardeshøj with the ferry Bitten, where bicycles come aboard for free, and visit the special nature in the Nordals Nature Park and the Nørreskoven Forest.

Riding routes
On Als you have the opportunity to experience the beautiful landscape on horseback. The riding trail on Als is a 100 km long round trip, which goes both along the coast and inland. The route goes along fields, gravel roads and side roads. Along the way, a number of hay hotels and shelters offer good accommodation for riders and horses.
Beaches
The 250 km of beautiful coastline and fine beaches in Sonderborg municipality provide plenty of opportunities for water activities. 9 beaches are Blue Flag Beaches and 3 beaches are Winter Bathing Points. For the bather this means that the safety and bathing water quality is okay.
On the Blue Flag beaches offers The nature guides Sonderborg lots of activities during the summer. Activities include fishing trips, dissection of sea animals, wild food on the beach, beach safari and Crab Day.
Shelters, tent sites and overnight stays in the open air
Do you want to go out into nature and cook on a campfire, sleep under the open sky or spend the night in a shelter? There are many options throughout Sonderborg municipality. For example, use campfire sites, campfire huts or primitive overnight accommodations.
At primitive overnight sites, you can spend the night in nature in a tent or shelter as an individual or a small group. The overnight sites are often located in beautiful natural surroundings and are accessible from hiking, cycling and horse riding routes or the coast. Most overnight and shelter sites are free, while some have a small user fee. Free camping in selected state forests is another option.

Fishing spots and fishing lakes
Especially on Nordals there are several fishing lakes, but you can also fish directly from the beach. See the many fishing spots on the map or read more here.
In the Sonderborg area, all anglers between the ages of 18 and 66 must have fishing license, while certain Put & Take lakes only require a fishing license for that water.
