Zadie Smith – Live streaming from the Royal Library

Listen to Zadie Smith livestreamed from the International Authors' Stage at the Royal Library

One of the most incisive and influential writers of our time, British Zadie Smith, takes the stage in The Black Diamond. Here she is interviewed about her award-winning writing.

The occasion is that she is receiving the 2026 Hans Christian Andersen Literature Prize, and therefore she is on one of her rare visits to Denmark.

Zadie Smith writes sharply and humorously about multicultural environments where identity is shaped by race, class and origin. She connects personal experiences with broad social criticism – from the British class system to how we have entrusted so much of our identity and behavior to social media and the powerful tech giants behind it.

Since debuting with White teeth In 2000, Zadie Smith made a significant mark on the international literary scene. With a rare combination of intellect, humor and human insight, her writing spans a wide range – from novels and essays to short stories, drama, debate and children's books.

The event will be livestreamed directly from the International Authors' Stage at the Royal Library.
