Plant dyeing

Plant dyeing

From plant to colorful yarn in Sonderborg

Dyeing your own wool yarn with natural plants is, among other things,

  • The joy of collecting plants while enjoying nature.

  • Then the whole process of coloring, and not least seeing the result from the dye pot.

  • And finally, creating your own unique product with your own yarn, while you sit with your crochet or knitting gear, and unwind on a dark winter evening.

Dyeing yarn with plants is a process full of surprises and creativity. In the course we work with both theory and practice, so you gain insight into the entire process – from preparing the yarn to the finished result.

You will learn about alum pickling, dye plants and different dyeing methods, so that you can then continue with natural dyeing at home. During the course you will have the opportunity to dye up to approx. 150 g of wool yarn – enough for a shawl, for example. Maybe we will achieve more.

Dyeing takes place both in already prepared dye baths and in dye pots that we put together so that you get practical experience with the entire process.
