Art Exhibition: Julie Nymann: Follow the Green Path

JULIE NYMANN: FOLLOW THE GREEN ROAD

Julie Nymann (b. 1987) is a cross-aesthetic visual artist who works with photography, sound and video. In recent years she has been involved in the project The advantages of being dyslexic created what she herself calls a “proudly dyslexic movement”, where dyslexia is articulated as a superpower. Nymann uses both her own and others’ stories of being dyslexic in her artistic practice and actively works to change the language and perception of dyslexia.

Central to Nymann's artistic practice is the color green, which refers to the national dyslexia test. Here, the colors red, yellow, and green are used to identify dyslexic students in primary school and in youth education. The red color is assigned to dyslexic students. Nymann believes that these color codes reproduce the difficult feeling of being left out of the community, and she therefore works specifically with the color codes in her exhibition at Augustiana Kunsthal.

For the exhibition, Nymann will create a site-specific photo installation based on conversations with children and young people from local schools and educational institutions. The audience will also have the opportunity to contribute to the work during their visit. The local participants will share their experiences with dyslexia in a series of workshops with Nymann in the spring of 2026.

Biography
Julie Nymann (b. 1987) is an interdisciplinary visual artist and graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2024). She also holds a certificate in photography from the International Center of Photography, New York (2012). Nymann's works have already been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and she has received several awards. She is a board member of the Ordvrider Advisory Board and a role model for Strengthen Your Strengths, where she works for better conditions for people with dyslexia. Nymann's own dyslexia is a driving force in the development of her practice, where she works to create a unique visual and sensory imagery that challenges a text-centric society.
