The Giant Reading Day – Storytelling: Hans Christian Andersen's Lesser Known Fairy Tales
We celebrate the UN's International Literacy Day with a story. Ellen Mortensen tells Hans Christian Andersen's lesser-known fairy tales.
We all know The lighter og The ugly duckling, but HC Andersen wrote many other stories, and several of them have been forgotten. Storyteller Ellen Mortensen has found a few, dusted them off and added drama and atmosphere – with an eye for the language and poetics that characterize HC Andersen's fairy tales.
Ellen Mortensen works in the oral storytelling tradition, where stories are not just read aloud, but shaped in the encounter with the audience. The stories are therefore never quite the same, and as the audience you are not just a listener, but a part of the story.
With a sense of both the dark, the humorous and the touching, she takes the audience into the forgotten fairy tales - told with body, voice and presence.
