Chess in Concert

Chess in Concert

Big emotions, intense conflicts and timeless songs – the musical Chess has it all. Look forward to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival's theater concert with the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra and several of the German musical scene's greatest voices.

In the mid-1980s, ABBA stars Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus created the captivating music, while Tim Rice – known for his successes with Evita og Jesus Christ Superstar – was behind the lyrics. The musical, which caused great excitement in both London's West End and New York's Broadway, revolves around the rivalry between two chess players and a complex love story full of passion and intrigue.

Now this significant milestone in musical history is being performed in a concert version – an ambitious and inspiring project for the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Choir, the choir’s long-time conductor Nicolas Fink and the Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra. A first-class ensemble of soloists also provides vocal highlights, including Sabrina Weckerlin, who has garnered great acclaim on Hamburg’s musical stages, most recently as the acclaimed Elsa in Disney’s Frost.

Look forward to an evening where timeless hits like “One Night in Bangkok” and the moving duet “I Know Him So Well” are combined with magnificent symphonic choral passages and energetic rock beats - an experience that invites both enjoyment, immersion and excitement.
